Definition
A Teacher Portfolio is a collection of achievements that the teacher has accomplished, both in the classroom and elsewhere to display the teacher’s talents and proficiencies and to demonstrate a teacher’s knowledge and skills. What does it include ?
Annual plans , model lesson plans , sample unit plans , remedial plans , remedial works , teaching programs , enriching works , diverse sheets , modern techniques , aids , floppies , CDs , transparences , reports , projects , school broadcast , studies and summaries , action research , certificates , intervisitation table , intervisitation sheets , demonstration lessons , membership of educational committees , diagnostic tests , evaluation tests , trial tests, Creative handouts you have designed , student work examples …etc

c. It promotes self-evaluation and self-awareness.

Why do we need a portfolio ?
1- To allow teachers to display their best work in a way that sets them apart from the crowd. 2- To be used to give evidence of many skills and abilities that administrators desire in a teacher. 3- To show professional growth over time in diverse educational situations, and relay personal attitudes toward teaching and learning. 4- To serve as proof of the accomplishments achieved during teaching experiences . By selectively collecting work and personal documents of achievement . 5- To show individuality and creativity. 6- To organize your thoughts and tenets relating to issues in teaching and learning. 7-To show self-reflection and an ability to distinguish what was good, what could have been better, and why something worked as expected or failed to do so. 8- Some schools see portfolios as an effective technique for teacher evaluation. 9-Teachers who keep their own portfolios are better prepared to involve their students in keeping student portfolios. 10-It is an effective vehicle for communication between teacher and supervisor or between teacher and principal.
Challenges
The creation of a professional portfolio requires careful effort and time .
